It is possible to modify the 300D to greatly enhance its sensitivity to astronomical objects (especially in H-Alpha). This involves removal of the standard IR cut/AA filter. It is not really that hard to do but requires some previous experience in working with small electronics. Even with these skills there is a risk that the camera may be damaged/destroyed with the following procedure. you have been warned!
The following gallery shows the steps involved in removing the CMOS sensor and removing the filter, sorry the pictures are blurry but unfortunately I didn't have a good camera to use at the time.
New! Gary Honis excellent IRC removal procedure for the 300D/DREBEL.
