Google themes

In case anyone is curious, Google has now opened up theme creation with an interface that seems simple, but leads to a fair amount of trial and error. Use their tool to upload a picture and then choose the section you want to display. What you get isn't automatically what you chose. If you make an image 1400 by 185 pixels, you will get a usable theme that fills a wide screen display. At first I just did these as a lark, with no concept that anyone would actually use them. That was before I started seeing themes with hundreds of subscribers showing up. The last time I looked, there were more than 50,000 subscribers to my themes at http://www.google.com/ig/directory?q=terry+ballard&hl=en&type=themes . In the Spring of 2010, Google added a major upgrade to the picture interface, allowing you to add 16 images per theme that will rotate throughout the day.
