Your photography is amazing! I believe you are living out my dreams... As I read through the profile discription about you, I was struck with the fact that even though I have lived quite an opposite life, I believe that you have lived out my life the way I wish I could. Settled or not (in France), keep living your dreams and don't let anyone slow you down!

Cheers~

And this is a gallerie I dream of. Every picture is perfect.
this comes not only through a perfect model but also perfect off the man behind the camera.

Kees!

Good Sunday Morning! I'm responding to your message about why black and white on that Backstage Pass ad...because I made him do it! No...I asked nicely....but we needed an ad for our annual fundraiser to put in our Nutcracker program, which goes to press THIS WEEK. And it's all black and white. Originally, it was my idea to go Fred and Ginger for Backstage Pass, and Art Deco - one of my favorite periods. (Old art history student here.) Thus black and white made sense. Then we saw the red dress.....it was a $10 dress Lisa had picked up in a bargain shop. Just goes to show....

Thanks for all your friendship and support of Richard. He appreciates you so much! I hope your move to France goes smoothly. How exciting! I do hope you can continue to communicate once there. We will miss you, so find a solution!

Kees,
Thanks for your comments in my galleries. I am trying to start doing more black and white...my mind mostly works in color. Your B&W conversions are excellent - any tips or tools you can offer?
I also really enjoyed your wonderful nudes...especially the ones on the rocks and the ones with the horse.

I absolutely love everything on this site. I would like to compliment the photographer(s?) on an excellent portfolio.
Guest 18-Sep-2006 09:22
Hallo Kees,

Don't know if I could have done this in Dutch, so now i'm doing my best to do it in English...
I admire your work, especially (huh?) the portraits. I would love to be able to do so, but i'm having major problems to tell models what i want them to do. Hmmm...
So i just stick to the other thing that i personally like in pictures: action, just shoot what happens, especially (i just know for shure that i'm screwing up this word, don't I?) on stage. Rock and Roll, sweat, smoke, lights, power... Anything that happens on stage and unpronounced.
But damn! I wish I could do what you do...
Queenmelo 29-Aug-2006 12:50
Your work moves my soul. The images are both in the realm of fantasy but captured in reality. They are all what BEAUTY is all about -- the harmony of the movements of the Ying and the Yang... the truth of then and now... the oneness of black and white... the burst of colors coming to life in the stillness of time.

Your eyes Kees is gifted with the power to capture THE TRUE IMAGE of LIFE.

Now... there is no stopping to my paln to visit Cuba before the Castro Era is gone.
Thank you for your images...

I was delighted to find your message in my gallery, "From a Window Near You." That's quite a compliment coming from an accomplished photographer as yourself. In looking through your galleries, I came across your explanation of why you call your photos "snaps." Your's is a refreshingly lighthearted attitude about a playful artform. In my experience, artists who know how to play and enjoy doing so are the most innovative. The ease with which your models greet your lens suggests that they are comfortable and having a good time. That's magic, for sure.

I come here for inspiration, for visual relief and for the building blocks of my day dreams. I can get lost in your 'snapshots' of Jersey. I feel the passion in your shots of the most beautiful people and read their comfort and confidence in their eyes. You have referred to some images as 'eye candy' and well, you appear to have a gallery full of them. So much choice, so much beauty, so little time. I have created an icon on my desktop for frequent returns but this is the first time that I have decided to post a comment. A great fan adores your work.

I was blow away by all your feedback. I especially appreciated you more critical ones - all very useful and to the point - I think all of the could improve the images - feel free in the future to do so in the future (not enough of it here at Pbase)

Had to smile about one of your comment regarding one of my image that went something like "too bad the background is so sharp" - spent some time going through your galleries again - and I was able to confirm what I remembered, you use shallow DOF so effectively - often in a very subtle and effective way (like the turquoise room series) - a king of bokeh.

Also found a new favorite (for now) among your images:

http://www.pbase.com/terberg/image/57210386

("charlie with blad" was a close second)

In one way I was struck by how much this image reminded me of one taken by (I think) my great-grandfather many, many years ago (I think you would like it) - which I find amazing given the technology of the day, combined with the subjects and lighting:

Kees - I really enjoy your work. Your portrait captures seem to bring out a candid message from the subject. And, it brings an impact of how rare an opportunity that revelation is. Even the humorous, or more extreme (like the cigar smokers), bring a quality of intimacy to my eye. You honor the human in all and seem not to forget the beauty in the eccentric. Good stuff - Gus

Kees, Thank you for the comment on the 'blue eyes'. An image of my niece who was unhappy with her school pictures. Her boyfriend's suggestion on the eyes, as there is no color correction. I agree, it has more appeal to me pure b/w. Please, keep the critiques coming. As you can see from our 'challenge' we are really endeavoring to learn. I do appreciate your time and expertise.

Your work is spreading around the world very fast. You already build up a reputation in Korea and now you seem to become well known in San Francisco as well. I had dinner with a fellow photographer friend who received a series of images from you of the blue swimming pool. I missed those here but I saw your link to here on the SIG. You have a beautiful style and you will make it big. You prortay the world so beautifully. With regards, Mah Lee (Korea)

Hey Kees, thanks for signing my guestbook. As everyone who visits you galleries will agree, you have some exceptional work - my particular favourites being the b&w portraits. All the best for 2006.

Hi Kees, John got a few around this size on Paris and Texas flats.
there are bigger ones about too, we saw quite a few while hooked
up to smaller fish, and cast to a few but the smaller fish got to
our flys first. we were both hooked up to bigger fish but got
broken off. christmas island is a fantastic fishery!

Your Cuban essay has motivated me more than you can imagine. You have beautiful photos but your writing skills possibly exceed this. With the greatest respect.

Kees,
Thanks for the kind words.
You're right, at first glance...not much difference Oly vs Nikon.
Nikon's "edge" is bigger file, lens options, faster, more zoom. Definetly "not a compact anymore" type of shooting.

Love your ladies

David

Hey Phillip, generally with any camera that I can get my hands on. I use a broad range of toys, from a Hasselblad to my recently purchased Canon 1D Mark II. In the last few weeks I have been experimenting with a state of the art Holga and an 1880 Box Brownie. The negs look interesting but I need to find the time to print off some contacts for closer inspection.
