Persian Cat too old to be admitted to rescue

This Cat was found recently listed on craigsloist.org
He had been listed previously but there hadn't been any inquiries. The owner wants him to be taken out of the home immediately due to allergies and also because he is left home alone every weekend. What I have been told about him is that he has been with this family for only 8 months and that there has been some litter box problems also. I asked for any documentation that they had on him and I got 2 Vet invoices, one being very valuable because its from his time with the previous owner. Looks like he is at least 10 years old and front de-clawed. He has fair weight, probably about 10 lbs, and good muscle tone. During my visit with him he was very relaxed and stayed in front of me for all of my 15 min visit. Could he be one of those "bomb proof" persian types, could be! I like the lower nose position on him here because he is less likely to suffer breathing problems. He has a pleasing cobby body type and a better type fur coat for the breed without being one the current days high style Persians. He will need a dental cleaning first thing and a debugging inside and out. He has a dark stain on his back of his neck from the application of an otc flea ban topical. His coat is not too bad considering all but needs a good comb out straight away and then a bath. Forgot to physically check him down under to verify if he was neutered, but assume he is. Have an appointment to pick him up on 7/21

7/21 Pickup day.
280 miles traveled round trip and he was unhappy for most of the return ride with me. He fussed and fussed but became quiet when I finely turned the radio on. The sound of a talk radio program seems to calm him. After my first impression of him being a laid back type old cat he is now looking like the complete opposite and he is taking the loss of his home very hard. He is very stressed, something that I hadn't had a purebred cat do before in reaction to the change of home.

7/22 His first day.
We were home by 8 pm. It was about 2.5 hours duration on the return trip. The cat has become very stressed at the first sight of just one of my home cats.
9 am and its confirmed he HATES other cats.
Have set him up in a good sized crate with a bed pad, food and water, litter box. Have to completely cover the crate to prevent him from seeing any other cats. He is now hissing at me when ever I look in on him. This could play out badly. I am going to risk contacting the other and earlier previous owner to get some additional history on him.

7/23 Day 2
Half way through his second day and he has now taken a little food and water for the first time since arriving. The litter box was used for the first time also sometime during the night. He woke me up at 4 am this morning howling loudly but he calmed when he saw that I was up. He is now hissing at me with the same intensity that he does when seeing the other cats. He is just a very unhappy cat right now.

7/24, Day 3
Developing good news!
We are so much happier today!
He doesn't hate all other cats after all. The covers have come off the crate and he is looking relaxed. Other cats are up and about and now he doesn't mind seeing them at all.

7/26, Day 5
He is coming along very well and much quicker than I had expected.
Already his appetite is good and he has accepted his new meaty food. His diet previously had been a near all cracked corn and corn gluten. Thought he had some active fleas since his owner had recently been regularly treating him for them but I find no evidence for any live fleas. He does has a low level of active ear mites. Thought he was in immediate need of a dental cleaning but now that I have had a close look I think he has very good dental condition for his age. His litter box looks very good too. He is a little thin and could fill out well if he could gain about 3 lbs additional weight. I'm guessing that he is currently about 8 lbs.

7/30
Received this additional info today, his birth date is 1/13/98.
Have been making slow but good progress on combing his fur coat where its matted.

8/10
Finally! Got the last of the clumps of mated fur out from his backside.
It had been worrisome how he seems to go without a bowel movement but that is now not so much a problem.
He had a appointment with the Vet last week but I canceled it because couldn't get a good fecal sampling from him. He seems comfortable enough here with us now and the last holdout among my old home cats have now accepted him. Remaining problems are that he does not like the corn based litter that I have in the community litter boxes and is yet not very agreeable to dining with the other cats. For his comfort I have again setup his crate with his private litter box, food and water bowels for his exclusive use. The routine is that he jumps into his crate about 3 times a day for his food and litter box use, mostly he hangs-out outside the crate with the other cats.

10/1/08 He was given the name Scrappy by his first owner and the next adopting family thought the name fit him. When I brought him home I had thoughts of renaming him but the name Scrappy now seems to describe him well at times. Today I reluctantly decided to crate Scrappy because he has recently become aggressive toward my most senior male cat the twentytwo pound old Squeaker. Any fight between these two big males would likely result in serious injury and therefore Scrappy is now in the crate.

!0/4/08 Scrappy has moved out and now with a new family where he is the only cat.

10/6/08 Received an update on Scrappy and it sounds like he is doing well with his new family.
He was named Scrappy by his original owners.
