Here's some initial photos after my first few months with the FZ150, one of the new generation of 'superzoom' or 'bridge' cameras. The FZ150 lens has a 24x focal range of 4.5-108mm, with a 35 mm film equivalent of 25-600mm . To calculate the 35mm film equivalent just multiply the indicated focal length by 5.55! These images have all been edited in Lightroom 3.5.
Initial impressions (from the context of an amateur who also uses the Canon 7D,Olympus E-PL2 (four-thirds), and previously the Panasonic FZ28):
In general, I think the image quality is very good, especially for close-up zooms and macros of flowers (and probably birds as well). It also does very well with urban scenes and other man-made objects. I've gotten some decent landscapes but here I think the camera lacks the resolution for fine detail (such as vegetation) necessary for really sharp photos. Handling and ergonomics are very good and the camera is exceptionally fast for its class. Though certainly not as quick as a DSLR I really enjoy using the camera with its speed and very well designed controls.
I have not tested the camera in really low light conditions (after all I live in New Mexico) though I have noticed noise issues, such as on people's faces and dark areas of skies, at as low as iso 100-200, especially when the image is zoomed and/or underexposed. I often have to use exposure compensation of -1/3 to -2/3 or more to avoid seriously blown highlights in this bright environment with very sharp contrasts. The noise cleans up reasonably well in Lightroom and the noise is noticeably finer grained in raw shots.
All in all, keeping in mind its small sensor size, the FZ150 is an excellent option if you are in the market for a super-zoom or bridge camera.
