big halibut-9193.jpg

Was on my way back home from a day of fishing and as I was heading through North Pass this guy was on the beach waving me down. I thought he might have engine problems and needed a tow. I get over to the beach and he says he has got a huge halibut and can not lift it into the boat. I had to get out and help him load it. It is estimated to weigh between 250 and 300 pounds, he said he fought it for one hour and 45 min. He had to tow it about a half a mile to get to the beach. This is all the higher he could lift it for the photo.

Aren't you so glad you happened along...as I'm sure he was!!! Love this shot Ron! I see exhaustion & pain in his face but the pure childlike joy and happiness just ooooozes from his being...how much fun! Splendid capture, I hope you send him a copy!!!

I remember seeing the Halibut in Seward and some of those fish were taller than the guys hanging them up! That's a good chunk of change if he sells it or a lot of great fresh fish to eat.
