The BP Bridge

The BP Bridge spans Columbus Drive to connect the east side of Millennium Park to Grant Park and to Chicago's lakefront. But this is certainly not a conventional utilitarian bridge. Designed by architect Frank Gehry (who also designed the Pritzger Pavilion), the BP Bridge is an experience in itself as it leads visitors along a meandering path from point to point. Clad in brushed stainless steel plates the bridge's sheen changes throughout the day as the sun travels across the sky. The decking is constructed of a Brazilian hardwood. Although the BP Bridge's design may seem completely whimsical it is actually designed to provide a traffic sound buffer for the Pritzger Pavilion.
