MZ ETZ 251, reg .no. H685 BMC

I bought one just like this in March 1993 and rode it until April 1994,as my main bike.I had become a courier again,in London. This was to have been a spare bike, but the other bike ,a Honda VT500E proved so unreliable, that it was ditched,in favour of this little beauty. It wasn't perfect, but it was reliable, unless it rained. One rainy night, returning from Godstone,I enlisted the help of the Dartford Tunnel escort vehicle,as the bike had stalled in heavy rain, three times on the tunnel approaches. They were very good about it,following me through the tunnel.I replaced it as a main bike in 1994 with a new MuZ 301 VE,WHICH WAS TO PROVE TO BE ONE OF THE BEST BIKES I'VE EVER OWNED.The 251 was kept for several years as a spare bike, until it suffered an electrical fault, then "Foz" got it,to play with.
1,000 hits shows just how popular these humble little bikes really were.As the wife of the former Head of Norwich Union Insurance said when I met her whilst making a late Friday night drop as a courier"there's nothing wrong with MZ's,good, sturdy, reliable hacks."Her host then said,"WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BIKES?"She replied,"That's how hubby and I met,I rode an AJS500 as a motorcycle courier during the War and he was in motorcycle administration".Diss 1993.
