Suzuki-GS400C,9/1978 - 10/1980 Reg.No. WSP 660T

Probably, the BEST bike I've EVER owned.Owned September 1978--October 1980.Mine was a similar blue to this pic,but with pin striping on the tank and tailpiece.
Mileage approx.22,000 miles.Nothing went wrong. On a good day,I'd get 77 mpg.On a better day,a clocked 105 mph.I was a bit lighter in those far off days,I remember I could pull out infront of a moving Porsche and just leave it behind.Great stuff.
NB:Amazing how the memory dulls with age.Throughout the terrible winter of 1979 - 1980,this bike was off the road,in a dealer's storeroom.A key snapped in the barrel(they did it) and it took 2-3 months to get and fit a replacement. In Dundee, where this happened, snow lay on the ground for 128 consecutive days.AND I'd dropped it on a tight bend in Lockerbie,on ice,and it had, thereafter, a wobble on the front end.The last bike of mine, that Paula rode on.(Aaah Paula very fond memories!Quick hide that bit, the wife's coming.)One day,the day after a thorough cleaning,I'd even taken off the footrest hangers to thoroughly clean them,I was riding down the A74 from Beattock Summit towards Lockerbie.30 miles downhill.I was trying to go as fast as I could, prone on the tank, legs on the rear indicators, when I could feel a tapping sensation from the rear of the bike.Fearing I hadn't tightened something properly from the previous day,I rolled off the throttle and took about a mile to stop.It was the rear brake linkage(drum brake)had come apart and was bouncing off of the road surface.By the time I'd stopped, the locknut had worn flat.

other sizes: small medium original auto
