St.Margaret's is a lovely old Church, but with a terrible affliction. The affliction is that it has been joined with St.Andrew's church at Greenstead. That church has a wooden foundation dating back to Saxon times,is very picturesque and gets thousands of tourists every year.Revenues are good and it is well maintained.St.Margaret's on the other hand is rather the ugly sister,by comparison,no tourists, very small congregation and in a poor state of repair.Today, even the gates to the churchyard were padlocked. The dedication is to St. Margaret,Queen of Scotland. She started life born in Hungary,of Saxon parents. With the invasion by The Normans, her family fled to Scotland, where she became Queen. There is a beautiful painting in the church by the noted Scottish Artist Fyffe Christie.
