Despite looking exactly like a pele tower, there is little record of this tower ever having been lived in or used as a defensive stronghold.Ideally situated atop a steeply sided hill, superb all round vision, what appears to be a rock cut ditch,on the western side, lots of earthworks and ancient remains of walls, but written history seems to have passed it by.All the evidence points to it having been constructed as a penance for some heinous misdeed, but despite lots of legends,no firm facts. Some of the graves in the adjacent graveyard, date back to the 1700's,there are Irvings of Bonshaw.Their tower lies about 10 miles East,so why be buried here?Very curious.
