This fine reconstructed stretch of Hadrian's Wall, stands to a height of 5 feet,or so.It is a fine example of the "Narrow Wall",on a "Broad Wall" foundation. As the builders got nearer to the Red Rock Fault,a natural geological boundary, beyond which there is no limestone, the preferred building material, the Wall was made narrower, only 8 Roman Feet wide rather than the original plan of 10 Roman Feet, presumably to make the quarried limestone"go further".The defensive ditch, dug infront of the Wall, can clearly be seen here performing a more modest function,as a farm track.
