Bincknoll Castle was a re-used iron age promontory hillfort.But,the Normans re-used it as a motte and bailey.The village associated with the castle,was at the foot of this gully.Remember,everything for the lord's use had to be brought up to the castle.That's a 300 ft.climb,every time.
