Huge and impressive castle, located near Figueres (Girona, nearest town is Cantallops), in semi-abandoned condition, a small symbollic entrance fee will give you free access to explore the fortress innards by yourself. It's really great to wander around the maze created by stairs and corridors, letting your imagination fly. Two advices, be careful, and bring a light if you'd like to explore some rooms fully. Originally dating from the Middle Ages, this castle was also extensively used during the Spanish Civil War, when some modern constructions were added to the original structure, mainly in the upper level. These images date from 2002, and were all taken during a short sunday morning trip with a Minolta X-370s and a 24mm Sigma lens. Film was Ektachrome 100VS. |
