Matt,

I think I saw that Palm Canyon. How did you get there? The place I remember, I was following an abandoned railroad line in Southern Cal, on my way to Prescott for the first time. November. Spooky country. Had to follow the line through a couple of long, dark tunnels, and that was scary, even though I knew for a fact there wouldn't be any trains coming, because I'd seen the tracks all bent and twisted and broken, hanging off the trestle in places. And then those palm trees looking so strange and out-of-place, down in the canyon ... I remember leaving the grade and picking my way down the side of the mountain, down to where the palm trees were, but the rustling of the fronds and the chirping of unseen birds really freaked me out. The country all around was so desolate, I hadn't seen a live animal in a day or more, nor heard any sound other than my own footsteps. I didn't stay long. I don't think I ever believed that canyon with the palm trees was actually real.
