I love the focus .
A slice of life is well presented and so thoughtful .

Good to see that newspapers are alive and well in Berkeley. So nice to see the ritual with a newspaper instead of an iPad, Blackberry, or the like. Great statement in this image!

I see movement in this calm image. The outside of the paper is soft in the background, the eyes moves down to the inside of the paper - the meat of the matter - and the foreground holds the cup of coffee or tea which will eventually be inside the person.

I took another message from this image, Carol. Rather than symbolizing the end of the newspaper as we know it, it tells me that reading newspapers is still very much a part of the daily ritual in San Francisco. Your black and white medium enhances the newspapery feeling here. You cram newsprint into most of your frame, leaving space only for the cup and pot of either hot coffee or tea at bottom right. You leave with the idea that EVERYONE reads the newspaper in this place, particular at leisure. Wonderful.

The cup is almost as large as the pot, LOL. Bay Area Living indeed!
Great use of black and white, representing newsprint, and symbolizing the end of newspapers.
The San Francisco Chronicle, nee Examiner, was well known as a colorful paper, due to the Sporting Green section printed on green paper and the Entertainment section printed on pink paper.
