Sibiu started as a German settlement, named Hermanstadt, and there are still signs of that name today. The plaza and center of the city have buildings with roofs that look like eyes peering out.
We didn't have much time in Brasov but did stop at a huge superstore, Real Hyperstore, a large European chain, that carries EVERYTHING.
We stopped in Bran and watched some of the craftsmen making traditional items. Outside of Bran, a few miles away, we were able to visit the memorial set up in memory of 7 Israeli and 1 Romanian pilots who were on a joint training mission and crashed into a mountain visible from where the monument is situated.
At the pension where we spent the night in rural Sibiel, the bed linens were all beautifully hand embroidered and each room had a different theme -- ours had "good luck" items.
