Lubaantun: "place for fallen stones" in Kekchi Maya is a city that flourishes from about 700 to 850 AD located in the southern part of Belize along the Columbia River. One of the key features is that its buildings were primarily constructed without any aid of mortar. Each piece of stone was measured and cut to size to fit with the stones it adjoins. It is relatively large regional center with a number of buildings grouped around several courtyards. Part of the center has a series of terraced platforms with residential buildings that were likely used by elite and people of high status.
