this is my little brother Bobby's 1986 BMW 325e coupe. the ETA engine will remain till it dies, which should be a nice long time. the car has more than 304,xxx miles on it, since the odometer has stopped working. plans will be hashed out in the future, but for a teaser: suspension, brakes, engine, bodywork, interior, stereo stuff will all be adressed:)
**windshield and trim strips have been replaced, the car passed inspection with a hole in the stock Eta muffler and on a shitty tune
**the exhaust has been replaced with a factory "325i" exhuast, from the manifolds back. sounds nice and deep and seems to have picked up some higher rpm power
**the entire interior has been switched over to black vinyl, which is much more durable than the stock cloth. Factory premium component speakers have been fitted up front, and a Z3 1.9L short shifter has been installed.
**an M-Tech wheel stripe has been added to complete the look of the M-Technic 1 steering wheel, a european foglight switch has been added, the shifter boot has been replaced, and a sparco strut brace has been installed.
**an M-Technic 1 aero kit has been sourced in Germany, and is coming mounted to a pair of slimmer euro bumpers!
**studded 14" snow tires were added to offset the e30's tendency to drive ass-first in the snow, and Bobby says the studs grip the road so well, that he understeers first now!

We got a 1985 325 sedan as a parts car, and stripped lots of goodies off of it. it came with ~240,000 miles, and we are going to pull the engine and transmission out and have them both rebuilt. right now, we are hoping to have Korman in NC do the engine work, as they are renowned BMW tuners. the parts car also came with a set of Bavarian Autosport red sparkplug wires (to match the strut brace), and a set of 15x7 BMW Style-10 rims. they are being refinished in gunmetal with a polished lip, and will be mounted with some 205mm wide tires. A pair of premium rear housings was found in the junkyard, and I'll be stuffing it with aftermarket separate speakers and refinishing them to look like new. we were also able to switch rear windshield glass between the two cars, since the black car's original window had crummy tint film all over it, and was nearly opaque. I found a complete 13button OnBoardComputer in the junkyard as well, so that will eventually be swapped in. we are in the process of refinishing a set of euro grilles that we picked up off of e30tech.com, and they should be installed soon.
pics of all of these updates to come this weekend!
future plans include:
Bilstein Sport shocks/H&R Sport springs, upgraded brake pads, lines, and fluid, a repaint (mounting the M-Tech kit and euro grilles, a rebuilt (and slightly warmed over) 2.7L Eta motor, a Jim Conforti chip, a 2.93:1 LSD, some detailing inside and in the engine compartment, a new CD player and premium rear speaker housings, and upgraded headlights
A 3.73 or 4.10 are nice for acceleration, true....but either of those take away first gear completely, and lower the top speed drastically. with the low-end torque of the ETA engine, a 3.15 would be ideal, but they are hard to find. Besides, can hardly beat a $60 diff
The low-revving characteristics of the Eta powerplant make it pretty useless for highway cruising with anything numerically higher than 3.25:1. The Eta's stock redline is only 4700rpm, and 3.25:1 LSDs are VERY expensive compared to 2.93:1s (which we picked up for $60 with 150K on it). Plus, it isn't a racecar, and my brother doesn't have a job, so being economy-conscious is a good thing.

why a 2.93 lsd? why not shove in something with a bigger gear ratio like a 3.73 or a 4.10? much better for speed.
