AG12 vs 16 RCOS

This comparison shows the performance achievable with the Orion Optics AG12

Here I have placed my result side by side with a lovely image of the Pavo trio by Jose Joaquin Perez
using a 16" F11 RCOS remotely from Cerro Tololo observatory in Chile.

Three small galaxies in Pavo having a dance, the best part of 200 Million light years away and each only 2’ in size.

Sure, a very slight difference if you look critically ie. my noise reduction has unfortunately made some of the
very faintest stars hard to pick up in my shot and coupled with darker skies the larger scope in Chile has
revealed some fainter stars (only a few of the very faintest can’t be found in the AG12 shot) and the HII
regions are more pronounced but the AG12 shows some extra details in the galaxy cores

So that’s a 16” long focal length RC sited 2200m ASL at one of the best observing sites in the
world… and while not "quite" as good, the faster and smaller AG12 with much wider field capabilities
certainly holds its own imaging at just 600m ASL on the outskirts of Australia’s capital city, Cool....
