11/05/2012 - Around 2130 hours on the cold, election eve night of Monday, November 5, 2012 the Boston Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 48 Shirley Street. Ladder-4 signed off on-scene with smoke showing from the eaves of a two and a half story wood framed occupied dwelling. Their stick went to the roof, and Engine-14 pulled a pre-connect off and into the house. The fire was found to be on the third floor in the walls. Companies opened up and quickly knocked down the fire. Two hand lines were used in the attack. Rescue-2 reported that the searches were negative. Three ladder companies threw their sticks to the roof, including Ladder-26 who was able to sneak into the rear of the structure through a driveway. The truck companies were told to hold up on opening the roof due to the quick fire knock down. The fire was knocked down within fifteen minutes, and companies were clearing the scene within an hour of the initial alarm. No injuries were reported. Boston EMS had several units on stand by while the fire was underway. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
