01/31/2012 - Around 0815 hours on the morning of Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 the Hanson Fire Department dispatched a reported house fire in the area of Monponsett Street near Lapham Street. The caller reported smoke coming from the house and the chimney. Car 60 arrived on-scene at 556 Monponsett Street and reported smoke showing from the eaves of a one story wood framed dwelling. Heavy smoke was found in the attic of the dwelling. A working fire was requested bringing a Halifax Engine-1 and Hanson Engine-2 to the scene, and a Pembroke engine to Hanson's station for coverage. Engine-3 stretched a pre-connect through the front door. Companies opened up the walls and extinguished the fire that was around the chimney area on the first floor and attic. The crew working on the exterior removed the siding around the chimney to check for extension to the outside of the home. The fire was knocked down quickly. Crews opened up extensively on the interior and exterior of the home to ensure that all of the fire was out. No injuries were reported. It was not immediately known if the house was occupied at the time of the fire. One dog was seen being removed away from the home by a civilian. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the occupants. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
