Patty...
Glad you enjoyed exchanging ideas like this. When you do get Adobe, please take a look at the example that I placed in the "demo folder", linked to again here...

I listed the approximate steps I took to make the changes to your original photo. I'm very much a beginner with PS myself, and I learn mostly by just playing around with this stuff.... MFC

Wow, thank you both!

I really love the sample you showed to me.
Really beautiful, but not possible with Irfanview.

I will install Adobe Photoshop on my computer in the future.

Patty, I like how you removed some distracting elements with your crop here and added the interesting button frame. A nice improvement...and a very cute subject nicely positioned & posed for your greeting sentiment. Good job, Patty! MFC

(*)Before you uploaded this version, your commentary indicated that you wanted me to give you an example of what I was talking about in my original critique. I talked about brightening up the little guy a bit and downplaying the surroundings a tad more. Here is a link to your first version...

It's a little rough and the text isn't as nice as yours, but I think you get the idea. I know you may not have the software right now to make these adjustments, but this demonstrates how I thought your wonderful photo might be enhanced just a little. You indicated you wanted an example from me...so I wanted to provide it. If you want more details, just let me know, Patty. Is this helpful at all? Also, remember, it's just a personal impression. Patty, you did such a good job from the original that I didn't even think critiquing this one. Hmmm... let me see... I probably would try to move the text (higher) a bit as I find it too close to the edge. Another thing but not sure if it's possible with IRFAN.. I'd try to even out the lighting a little bit between the lower portion of the photo (by where its paws are) and the higher portion (from above its nose upwards). You can do this by darkening the lower portion and brightening the higher portion. Try not to overdo it as it may look unnatural. A slight adjustment will do. That's it and good luck with it:)

Thank you, I don't have to make changes anymore?

Definitely better, Patty! By cropping the ride side of the photo, the attention is now naturally drawn onto your subject. I also like the new border and how the whiskers extend beyond it. Nicely done!

Is this one better?
