Thanks Bev. It's one of our ubiquitous Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, very common now at the fringes of suburban living. Highly prized (and expensive) for illegal export, but in pest proportions (due to human deforestation of course) in many parts of the country. Sadly seen all too often cooped up in small cages as supposed pets (some people have strange definitions). There is a fairly active "underground" movement that makes it its business to release the worst cases of this that it learns of. Fortunately these largely nomadic birds survive such release, finding wild flocks and adapting quite well.
Some more very utilitarian shots here . - Mike

Wonderful capture of the wing detail, Mike. Is this a wild bird? - it looks like it should be a pet. Bev
