Thanks for the compliments Andy, mlynn and MFC. This is a photograph of a southwestern speckled rattlesnake which happens to be one of the masters of crypsis. They are born with a pattern which matches their rock piles exactly. They range from shades of grey to blue to pink and orange and everything in between. When I'm in the field looking for them they can sometimes be next to impossible to detect when they are lying up against a matching piece of granite. I have hundreds of photographs of them from many different areas and I never get sick of seeing them.

Brendan, I think this is a nice image to demonstrate natural camouflage...if I didn't hear the "rattle", I may miss recognizing him/her in a natural setting. Nice placement of the eye here too. MFC
