Mickey and a toy*
by Justin Miller

I tried to simplify this shot by using a very shallow DOF. Lying on the floor, shooting in Aperture Priority with the 50mm F1.7 lens wide open, and 1600 ISO to use natural light...I particularly liked how the cat was lit by some blueish light coming through the window behind me, while the orange light from the kitchen behind produced a bit of a complimentary color shot. Rule of thirds be darned, I liked centering the composition here.

The lighting is very nice. I like the contrasting colors and the viewpoint.

Justin, I really like how you isolated the cat using DOF here...beautiful color and light...great expression! Your technique certainly draws maximum attention to Mickey and simplifies the scene. Good idea...nice photo! MFC

I like really like the expression and light on the cat :)
I might have gone for even a tighter framing and a bit closer to the cat, which would have narrowed the DOF even further. But I like it like this too. Btw, is that suffed animal Mickey´s? Looks adorable.
