December Mountain......by willvan

My experience with B&W (or colour for that matter) is somewhat limited and I was looking in my files for a candidate. As a colour photo which is in the demo folder it should have been deleted at the time. Link to original. http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/image/104694010

Lovely capture of this scene - I love the fog!

Thanks "Camera Guy" and Glyn for your comments. Very much appreciated. I walked by this spot yesterday and while overcast, it was not nearly as dramatic. Bill

Hi Willvan. I'll mention what is for me a 'magic moment' in this picture .... two thirds of the way up the hill .. that clump of trees, proud against the cloud .. not a silhouette because they have their own gentle identity. very special moment for me. thank you

This is a beautiful shot. The trees are a perfect frame & balance to the skies. The tree in the center of the vortex is wonderful. I always go for the slightest bronze-ish tone because I find it gives the image more depth & translucency. Also, per Frank's suggestion, I usually use a +106 to 112 in the red channel & -4 in the green & blue channels & it works for me most of the time.

Thanks for your comments Frank. No, I did not use red filter in conversion but will experiment with idea. Your advice is appreciated. Bill

Great landscape shot! I love the composition. Did you use a red filter for the b/w conversion. If not you could try to get the blue part of the sky a bit darker, which would strenghten the mood IMHO.
