Traditionally, the people of Chocó would cut small numbers of trees to build houses or for a limited, sustainable, sale of lumber. Now, encouraged by lumber traders, trees are being cut an a rapid pace, and there is no reforestation. The destruction of the forest will undermine the natural envirnment as well as the economic and cultural foundation of Choco's traditional social structure.
Por tradición, la gente del Chocó cortaría una cantidad limitada de árboles para construir sus casas o para una venta limitada y sstenible de madera. Hoy en día, impulsado por los vendedores de madera, la tala avanza a un paso acelarado, y no hay actividad de reforestación. La destrucción del bosque socavará el medio ambiente natural además del cimiento económico y cultural de la estructura social tradicional chocoana.
