Hi Steve. Glad to be able to read and see a lot of Forfar before I visit in July. My great-great grandparents, Charles Low Porter and Jean Milne owned The Royal Hotel in Castle Street, Forfar 1860's. Charles was the brewer and Jean was the licensee of the Hotel. One of their 5-6 sons, (known as the Milne boys), was John Low Porter, who emigrated to South Africa where he married my great-grandmother, Jane Fraser. Jane Fraser was also of Scottish decent. Her parents were Jean MacDonald and Hector Fraser who also went to South Africa in the 1840-50's. I believe the ground level of the Hotel is now a bank but the upstairs is just as it was 150 yrs ago. I so look forward to my ancestral pilgrimage there and hope to find out more about the Porter-Milne ancestors. If anyone in Forfar can assist my research or know of any Porter's or Milne's in Forfar I'd be thrilled. Is the 'Castle Street 2' photo of the Royal Hotel? Email jheap@pcug.org.au

I really enjoyed viewing the photo gallery of Forfar. It is the town my father was born in and I have never seen it as he died shortly after I was born. I plan to visit soon.
