Operation Uranus, the Nov 1942 Russian pincer attack
to encircle Stalingrad. Flames or War battle portraying the destruction of
the 4th Romanian Army South of Stalingrad along the Volga river.

We played on a 12' wide by 6' deep table with 3 Armor heavy Russian Companies (4500 pts) facing 2 German Grenadier Cos and a Romanian Vanatori Motoriza Co (4500 pts) in a big battle version of the Trench Fight mission. The Volga River was frozen, but tanks had a chance to bog down or even break thru the ice (only 2 did so)

The battle ended with a minor Soviet victory as the anti-tank deficient Germans and Romanians just could not budge the horde of T-34s that came at them.
