The incomplete great nave of the duomo in Siena. It is at right angles to the existing church. The current nave was to become the transept, making the duomo one of the largest churches in the world. Work stopped in 1348 because of the Plague and was never resumed, partly because of the resulting economic downturn and structural problems with the new work.
