Gary and all... My understanding from a few key resources (listed on the "White-cheeked" cover gallery) is that this white neck ring is indeed highly variable in many of these groups. I appreciate the thoughts and comments very much.

I note that this image shows a white ring at the base of the black neck. The following photo does not, yet you suggest they are the same subspecies. I wonder if this is correct? Is the white neck ring variable? Just a thought.
