Ah, Ladakh! Buddhist village, high in the Himalayas, over-run with tourists and trinket shops and Tibetan Refugess markets. It's a very beautiful place, but, my God, i have never been in a city where the tourists so outnumbered the locals. Nor have I ever seen a place with so many trinket shops. There is just one after another after another after another. But, i have to say, I did enjoy it here a lot, though 8 days was probably a bit too long.
The scenery is amazing.
I mean, come on.
There is a big stupa at the top of a big hill. You climb the stairs, and see some amazing work.
A large head.
Whoa.
The interior of Tibetan Buddhist temples are amazing.
I'm a big fan of this guy
Great paintings on the wall
This Buddha is three stories tall.
Chortens, Gompas and Stupas
Self timer malfunction.
Apparently, people go to this gompa to urinate and gossip
The Gomaps are beautifully decorated
And nice places for dogs to relax
Green Buddha
Buddha's head
Very large Buddha, at a monastery about 2 hours from Leh
This image appears a lot.
Walking around Leh, you come across these amazing footpaths, with streams running alongside.
Pictures of the Dalai Lama are actually legal in India. The Evil Chinese who run Tibet would never allow this.
Lovely flowers.
Scenery like this all over. It actually gives the impression of having treked. I believe I simply asked my driver to stop.
Looking for all the world like the middle of nowhere. Maybe two steps out of my car.
