Well, this town totally sucks. I mean, this town totally sucks. Just so that I know I'm being clear, let me say, in perhaps a more clear way, this town blows. Big time. If you can get a bus in in the morning, tour the main temples, and then get the fuck out, DO IT. In a country renonwed the world over for the most annoying touts and shop owners on the planet, this horrible little town has the worst of the worst. I can't remember spending a less enjoyable day and a half in my life, and I've been in jail.

And, frankly, the temples are not that impressive. They are nice, yes, and remarkable for having survived destruction by marauding Mughals, but I have to take issue with LP in saying you will see no better temple art anywhere. You will see MUCH BETTER temple art in the 900 or so Jain temples perched atop a hill in the holy pilgrimage sit of Shatrunjaya in Palitana, Gujarat. If you want to see amazing temples and avoid the most annoying hucksters on the planet earth, go to Palitana.
