So, I finally went to Rajastan. It took me four years and five trips, but I finally went to tourist central. I'd stayed away fearing the touts and all the horror stories that are so rife about travel in Rajastan. But it really was not that bad. Jaipur was not my favorite city. In fact, I sort of hated it. I don't understand its reputation really at all. The city has "rehabbed" the old city walls and they now look like backdrops for a cheap Hollywood film. Seriously: they look like their made of plywood painted a color somewhere between rust and pink. My travel companions and I left Jaipur scratching our heads as to the source of this crappy little city's glorious reputation. We decided it must simply be proximity to Delhi. ALL the other cities in Rajastan on the tourist trail are significantly nicer than the Pink Shithole, as I've come to think of it.
