Evening...

Skiing down the flanks of Bear Mountain,
I could see the evening light creeping into the valley
like a thief. Stealing from me the ability to
clearly see the trail as I dropped down from the upper reaches.

Cold and beautiful. My skiing partner and I miscommunicated or
rather, we failed to communicate at all, and we became separated at
the top of the mountain.... I zigged, he zagged, and we were both
excessively worried about the other.

Thankfully, our worry was in vain and we arrived about 5 minutes apart
at our vehicle shortly after dark dark dark descended on the valley
A little shaken but not stirred....

That same ending was written with my long gone partner Mary on many cycling rides. Dark, dark, dark. Those days you just don't want to end.
