Ceratomia undulosa - Waved Sphinx

Gardner MA

Collected from meadow edge ash August 2nd as an early instar caterpillar, Wampanoag Lake region, Gardner Ma.
With its well defined red blotches, this is one of the more spectacularly colored waved sphinxes I've raised, but the species is very variable and one may expect to find them in all shades of green, blue, orange, and pink. Note the black spotting on the anal-prolegs as an important I.D. characteristic.
