May 21, 2004 - Before the storm

Ann Arbor, Mich.

This is the view from the third-floor newsroom at the Ann Arbor News about 2 p.m. today as a major
thunderstorm rolled through Michigan. We had just heard that a funnel cloud had been spotted in Chelsa,
which is west of Ann Arbor, when the skies outside turned an eerie green. We were all ordered down into the
basement, but I took these shots through the window (you can see some of the reflection of the newsroom on the
window, especially at the right). Minutes later we were hit by hail and then a torrential downpour, but no
tornado. The tall building to the left is city hall.

We heard about that down here in Cincinnati. That sky is dreadfully frightening! Great shot.

Cool shot, Steve. I was at WalMart when it rolled through our area... that was some storm!

Wonderful shade of green. I remember that color from the days I lived in the midwest. Tornado warnings always followed. Great shot.

The color sure looks like a tornado is in those clouds someplace. Eerie shot. I am glad you did not get hit by a tornado. It plays such havoc with posting your PaD.

wow, this is wild looking. Very creepy. The reflection adds a curious piece to it all.
