Peregrine Falcons have been nesting continuously on the Radisson Hotel in downtown Winnipeg since
1989. This year, two peregrines were confirmed on the Radisson territory at the end of March. In April the birds were identified as Princess and Trey our resident pair. By the third week in April there were four eggs being incubated in the nestbox on west side roof of the Radisson. All four eggs hatched successfully in the third week of May. By the end of the first week in June, all the chicks had survived the critical first 10 days after hatching. One chick (Taku) fell to her death a couple of days before banding on June 19th (she had an underlying cerebral weakness). The surviving three chicks (Hurricane, Chinook & Mistral) were banded and survived fledging in early July though the latter two did require rescuing after landing on Portage Avenue. They spent a couple of days in rehab to ensure they had suffered no lasting damage and then were re-released from the Hotel and they have had no difficulties since. By late August, the chicks were seen infrequently around the Radisson, while Princess and Trey remained together at the Hotel and were last observed on October 2nd. In 2009, Hurricane reappeared and became the resident female at the McKenzie Seeds, Building in Brandon, Manitoba (west of Winnipeg). In 2006, the Project partnered with CBC Manitoba and Shaw to bring you an intimate look at the lives of our famous downtown peregrine pair. The images in these galleries are webcam screen captures and photos taken and donated to the Peregrine Falcon Recovery Project (Manitoba) by fans of the peregrines to be displayed here.
