It’s about time we talk about The Changes. With the dreamy jangle, new wave base, jazz flirting rhythms, and filtering in the post-punk end of rock, The Changes produce songs that put them in the same sentence as several others bands, but the quality in which they’re crafted sets them up and above the majority of them. Influences get thrown around like rubbers at the Love Parade by every writer who covers The Changes, but you can’t ignore some, especially The Police. However, their influences do not paint The Changes into a corner - instead, the efficacy of those who came before is diminished as The Changes grow into themselves. Now at the peak of their career adolescence, they are on the verge of being signed to a label - most likely putting out their debut LP on a major after getting a lot of attention for being the only unsigned band to play this year’s Lollapalooza. A year from now, they will be in your least favorite magazines, but they will be many people’s most favorite band.~the crutch
