Well the Rain sure put a damper on the flying activities at ASA 09, but the Seminars on Canopy, Cowl, and Electrical sure were well attended. It was either that or stand out in the rain. Not much of a choice. As luck would have it we had 9 aircraft in attendance and 9 aircraft weathered out.Friday Night about suppertime the 3 aircraft from Florida to a rousing welcome. Saturday about 4:00 the weather broke enough for a few of the guys to fly some exhibition passes to every ones delight and entertainment.
We fed 59 for lunch on Saturday and 65 made the BBQ dinner Saturday evening. Door prizes from Sonex LLC, Wicks and ASA were passed out after the meal and the event was deemed a success by most folks even though we did not get to give demo rides to a lot of folks, many of them came from a long distance. My thanks to all of the pilots that brought in their aircraft, Michael Crowder, Robert Eley, Robert Bandy, Robert Frost, Rodney Dunham, Michael McClellan, Ian Cutler, Dan Weseman, and Chris Smith. Chris Smith drove 9 hours to Florida to pick up his airplane, then flew about 4.5 back up to Crossville on Friday only to leave Crossville at 8:15 Am Sunday morning to fly back to Florida and get in his car and drive another 9 hours back to North Carolina. Man that is dedication. Thanks Chris
We did catch a break on Sunday as the weather broke clear and bright and gave everyone great weather for the trip back home.
All Future ASA gatherings will be in October. Stay tuned for the 2010 date.
To those Volunteers that came early to help with all of the things that had to be completed before our guests arrived I want to extend a big a huge vote of thanks. Without the work of these volunteers it would not be possible to put this event on. Rodney and Jane Dunham handled the all of the food arrangements and Rodney did a great Electrical Seminar. Will and Pam Ouellette handles all of the Registration and sales of hats, jackets and patches along with numerous other tasks. Michael McClellan Robert Bandy, Robert Eley and Tony Forry did all of the set up work of the parts exchange hanger and all of the pounding of stakes for the sign's as well as moving aircraft to make room in the hangers for our guest airplanes to keep them out of the thunderstorms that came through
Friday night and Saturday.
You will be able to see the group photo on the ASA website soon. Hope to see you next year.
