American Sonex Association 2005

From John Davis:

To All.

What a fun weekend we had here in Crossville CSV. The second year was a rousing success. We had 5 aircraft fly in and gave rides to 17 of the 30 pilots and wives in attendance. The builders started to arrive on Friday about 10 AM and continued through the day. They included Russ Jackson and Ed Noble who brought their conventional gear A/C from Calhoun GA. Rick Spriggle from Clarksville TN, Eldridge Flemming From Tupelo MS, and Dave Augustine from New Port Richey FL with Tri gear birds. Saturday was cool and clear and Orientation Rides started about 9:30 and continued until about 11:30. Lunch was followed by outstanding hanger flying session in my hanger where there was an exchanges of information on a number of topics including the ever popular canopy and cowling and lots of other great topics. The completion levels ranged from " just got my kit yesterday" to "I should be flying in a few days"

The most fun was seeing 16 of the 19 old friends that were here at the 2004 Fly In RETURN for this years gathering. We must be doing something right. We had builders from Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee

Next year we would hope that we get an even larger turnout of aircraft and builders to get more people enthused about the Sonex Aircraft. We did think that it would be a good idea to start a Special Tool Data Base so builders can get the special tools that you need 1 time with out being required to buy them. We started with the Drills for the Wings and a set of Tri Gear jigs for mounting them at the correct angle. If you would like to contribute to the Database send me an Email with the tool that you have to LOAN and we will get it going.

Last but not least since I am the only one that entered the "Spot landing contest" I am proud to announce that I am Officially crowned the "American Sonex Association National Spot Landing Champion" and get to have that on my aircraft until next years gathering. Sorry guys on one else wanted to pick up the challenge.

Hope to see you here next year on the October Weekend before of after the VA EAA fly in.
