Ah the generalization what firearms are about. I would argue that only a very very small fraction of the guns manufactured are used in roles where the intended use would be to shoot a human being. And of that very very small fraction the overwhelming majority are used in defensive roles (i.e. protecting oneself and family).
The overwhelming majority (almost all) are used in target shooting or hunting. The features, finish, and such on the guns I own would be of no value if their intended purpose was simply to kill. Instead, most of mine have substantial features that make them more fun for target shooting or more effective for competitive shooting.
