This is the top of the lighthouse at Großer Vogelsand- a treacherous sandbar in the Elbe estuary. It was in place from 1973 until 2008 when it was dismantled. The top was salvaged and it was planned to be converted into a tourist attraction in Bremerhaven. The investors then turned belly-up and thus the
top is sitting in a vacant lot waiting for better days to come. This lighthouse was actually several lighthouses in one for it sported several laterns for different purposes and directions. It was uncrewed but maintenance personnel could be airlifted unto the copter operations deck on top. quite unusual this lighthouse was self sufficient with the energy for the lanterns coming from on-board generators running on fuel which would be delivered on a monthly basis
