Rear end view- production models would have included a hatch and ramp arrangement for loading cargo. The inner pod on the wing is the turbine for cruising at altitude, whereas the outer pods contained thrusters for vertical take off. The latter could be detached and pods for freight or fuel could be added in their place. This complicated arrangement is due to the fact that neither engines nor avionics were up to the task to make a reliable transition between vertical and level flight.
