Retreat from the Russian Front

This image is an exercise in trying to coax the most
detail possible from the snow's surface. It was shot
in RAW format, underexposed by several stops, desatur-
ated by 100% and adjusted in Curves. Under their thick
layer of snow, the solar lamps are supposed to suggest
exhausted soldiers struggling against the odds. They
could also represent how I feel about learning to work
with RAW conversion techniques.

The battlefield fell silent, an army frozen to a standstill in snow and ice with temperatures minus 40 or more. No fuel, foodstuff and running out of ammo, that was the RAW picture in 1941.
I have never worked in the raw, afraid getting tangled up in the calibrations.
Wonderful winter capture. V.

Light snow. Sorry.
Working with raw was hard for me. I gave up. Good luck.

Shooting snow is always a tricky thing. You have done excellent here. :) V

I feel you angst in working with snow; and RAW too.
Looks like you have a Harry Lauder's Walking Stick shrub?
