I bet golf courses use the same techniques, but no, this is a nature preserve. I think they use different names for this kind of thing in different states. It's essentially parkland that is being restored and maintained in something as close as possible to its natural state---while remaining accessible to visitors. The material used through these marshy areas is the compressed plastic from recycled bottles, etc. This is a prairie wetlands area, so much of it is too soggy to walk on during part of the year.
