THIS IS A TEST

While out testing my new lens for barrel distortion and pincushioning,
I happened upon these buds just waiting patiently to emerge and grace us with spring.
Though not a thrilling photo, it is a far better choice than the test shots would have been.

The lens is the sigma 18-125 which I bought because I needed a wider angle that wasn't a fisheye,
and frankly, it was too cheap to pass on.

My preliminary test results which are wholly unscientific and largely subjective are as follows...

~ for the money it is a great lens ~
~ color is rich ~
~ there is some noticeable pincushioning at wide angle and even medium wide angle which I now
want to compare to my canon 28 -135 lens and see how it stacks up ~
~ its auto focus is noisy. wow. I just never realized how quiet the canon lenses are. the noise
here is nothing I can't live with but it is interesting to hear it ~
~ it is very lightweight and therefore wonderfully portable ~

I just thought I would share these observations in case anyone else out there is in the market for a wide angle zoom with a decent range.

Canon EOS 20D ,Sigma 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC IF ASP
1/1600s f/5.6 at 125.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Nice photo, first of all. I am really impressed with the zoom range on that lens. I'll have to check that lens out.

Looks like a decent lens for the price. I like the results of this photo. Quite sharp and colorful.

Looks pretty good open like this at the long end Liza. Thanks for the run down. It might be a good alternative to the wickedly expense Canon WA lenses.

Wonderful photo. Have you taken any contrasty images to check for CA? I am always leery of Sigma's lowest quality lens for edge sharpness also. If it works well, the zoom range makes a nice all round lens.

Beautifully captured. What full and abundant pussy willows.
