ON THE BOARDWALK

Unexpectedly beautiful day here so I wanted to take my camera somewhere fun.
I headed to Rye beach hoping that the elderly folks who frequent the boardwalk would
have the same idea. I was just yenning to photograph faces full of character and wisdom.

A couple of years ago I had a similar yen and photographed the woman pictured below. I entered the pic
in a portrait contest and won. I had promised that woman that I'd email her with
a link to her photos and I did so several times but she never wrote back
and sadly, I never saw her again.

Today I was intrigued by the woman who I am using as my pad for the day. I watched her as she spoke with
another woman on the boardwalk and realized much to my delight that it was the woman from the portrait
a couple of years ago. We spoke for quite a while and I told her about her winning portrait and how
beautiful everyone thought she was. She was thrilled to hear about it. This time I got her mailing address
so I can just send her the prints.

And the above photo also qualifies for S/P friday as you can clearly see me reflected in her
wonderful glasses.

Nice portrait, great backlit hair.

I have always loved the earlier portrait, and I thought the story was marvelous too. I like the backlighting in this photo, and the tight crop.

That's an amazing story. Without a doubt that b&w is one of the best portraits EVER, and one of your finest pieces of work. It's a perfect photo. That you should run into her again, and share your tale, and to be able to gift a copy of the photo is karma.

Both ladies are beautiful, and what a wonderful surprise for you and for your winning portrait subject. I love the lighting on the current PaD.

Good portrait and good SP in her glasses. She looks better this year than before--maybe she had been ill.

I do see you reflected there. Good SP. I love the B&W! I can see why you won.
