PLAGARISM

another exercise for this week's assignment.
Again the concept was that we have to replicate the lighting as closely as possible.
Of course it isn't going to be exact because presumably we don't have all the
lights and modifiers that a pro studio would have but we have to get it as close as
possible.

Here is the ad along with my copied version.
As I see it, here is where mine differs...
I needed a diffuser of some sort which I didn't have.
My lights needed to be a little higher up than they were
The scissors needed to be closer to her nose so that I could crop this as close as the ad is cropped
(if I had cropped it any closer the way it is, I would have lost the scissors)
I needed shinier (aka: more reflective) tape.

Anything else that you see?

addendum:
I do appreciate folks feedback but I want to clarify...
the exercise was to recreate the lighting. The photo itself didn't need
to be exact in pose. As for the tape over the eye... I didn't see that
until after my model left. I was focusing more on the light and shadows.
I think I agree with Karen about the bone structure of the ad model being a
little deeper than the bone structure of my model but still I think the lights
up a little higher might have made a closer match. But the glints in the eyes
do match well this way so who knows.

I hated this assignment by the way.

Next weeks assignment is to photograph an elderly person.
If there is anyone reading this who fits that description and
lives near me here in the NY metro area, please speak up and I will
be happy to have you as my model.

A little ear wax on the nose always goes a long way. ;-)

I know I'm coming late to this but I think this is a wonderful exercise and definitely a great class you're taking. The angle of the shot on the model on the left is slightly higher than yours & I think the light is harsher/brighter than your lighting. I also think there's some make up stuff going on. You did a great job.

Sorry that I don't have time to comment in detail...but it does look like you are learning a great deal!

Interesting exercise. As you noted, the sissors need to be closer to the nose and lips, and the picture cropped tighter.

The light does seem to be a bit brighter and higher on the model-notice the shine on her nose. That said, you did a great job. It was fun to study this.

yeah i dont know if you noticed or not, but the ad has the tape continuing over her left eyebrow as well. its hard to see but its there. good luck!

heh, I glanced over to see what you were up to, and thought you were going into the plastic surgery biz...

Think the lights higher (looking down?) would give the shadow under the eyebrows-but it could very well be the bone stucture of the magazine model that gives it such a distincitve darkness. Looking again, I think it is the model's bone structure as the catch lights in both models eyes are almost exact. Need a little piece of tape over the right eye of your poor suffering model. Tigher crop right, and at the forehead.
Cool excercise.
